The SD-X1 now available with The Jack alignment device.

The SD-X1 is the fastest Seed ever produced, and our premium tour grade golf ball. The SD-X1 is designed to max out ball speeds and distance, particularly suited for faster swing speeds.

About The Jack - Helps keep you straight.

The Jack is Seed's take on an alignment device, designed to help improve your putting accuracy, alignment and stroke.

The two large side circles create a strong visual alignment aid, allowing you to more easily line the ball to the hole.

The circle device also provides an instant diagnostic tool for the putting stroke, swing path and strike.

A balanced and centred stroke will result in the ball rolling true and straight, with the circles creating a visual affirmation (straight, clean roll). An open or closed putter face, an overly inside or across the line stroke will all cause the circles to “wobble” after impact, indicating a less than perfect strike.

The off-centre roll provides immediate visual feedback regarding the stroke and path. If stroke is an issue, the golfer also can turn the ball 90° and visually see the skid, spin and roll characteristics of the ball from their stroke.

This can be very useful for teaching professionals or anyone who is videoing the putting action looking for more visual feedback.

In research conducted by Seed, 86% of golfers found improved results on 6ft putts by using The Jack over traditional single line alignment device.

Perfect ball for a Swansea golfer!
Good design.
Like it around green to see roll and spin.

Love these balls. Would love the markings to be colour but know that will increase the cost.

Good, but not great

Having read many reviews, which were generally very positive, I thought I would give these a try. My favoured ball to this point has been the TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe, so it's comparable in many respects being a 3 piece urethane cover, priced similarly, and shares many characteristics. Visually when compared side-by-side with the TaylorMade, it doesn't look as refined, for the want of a better description it looks a little 'cheaper'.

On to playing; the first thing I noticed about the Seed SD-X1 was how much firmer it felt on fuller shots, and especially on mis-hits, bottom groove shots especially wringing the hands a lot more, and a very hard feeling from the ball. On good strikes though the ball felt good despite the firmness, felt powerful off the face but distances were about average certainly no gains there and in fact seemed to be between 5-10 yards shorter on 7 and 8 iron shots that I normally see. I did note the lower ball flight though which is one of the listed features, so that was good to see. Stopping power seemed good, but again no better than the TM Tour Response. The biggest area I struggled with was around the greens, for me personally I did not like the feel of the ball on chip shots and shorter pitch shots, I didn't feel I had the same level of control, and found it difficult to judge the amount of power needed in the shot. Putting however was good, it was easy to control the pace, and the ball rolled well, the alignment aids worked great to see how the ball was rolling, but again it didn't offer any more than the TM ball does in that respect.

As others have mentioned, the biggest negative for this ball was how easily it marks up, after only a few holes it was already looking quite scuffed and discoloured, I felt like I was constantly cleaning it, and it seems to really take grass stains easily. It isn’t necessarily bad damage all the time, just more of an annoyance at having to clean a lot, and not something you can do until you reach the green or tee either.

It's a good ball for the price point, but when compared with the TM Tour Response and its similar pricing, I think I'll be sticking with the latter, it just feels better for me.

First round thoughts

Every bit as good as my usual ProV1, lovely feel, plenty spin around the green on approach and pitch shots. Very good feel off the putter too. Very durable too.
